South West Metal Finishing - FAQ’s
Who are we?
South West Metal Finishing is the main Exeter headquarters of a group of trading companies owned by the parent company EIC (Exeter) ltd. SWMF also operates from Yeovil doing certain key processes such as Cadmium, Hard chrome and Zinc. The other companies in the group are Revill Industrial Finishes at ExeterAirport (Paint and Powder Coating Division) and South West Metal Finishing Chippenham Ltd (Electroplating and Anodising Factory). The directors of all the trading companies are based here and the majority of the accounts for each company is handled here.
What do we do?
Most engineered parts require some form of treatment at the end of the manufacturing process to enhance the life and functionality of the parts. We undertake a variety of different processes to achieve the desired result of the end user.
All types of metal plating are carried out here such as Nickel, Silver, Zinc, Copper and Chrome Plating. With our in house laboratory we can offer a range of product performance tests and SWMF also performs specialised testing services such as Hardness and Conductivity Testing and Non Destructive Testing. Anodising is carried out here in all its forms, such as Sulphuric, Chromic and Hard Anodising.
How long have we been doing this?
We have been doing this for around 70 years. The Company started out by chrome plating of bumper bars before the 2nd World war and has now developed into this 20,000 square foot of factory space providing a one stop shop for all aerospace and engineering surface treatment requirements. Over this time SWMF has developed a dedicated technical team who are well trained and experienced in dealing with complex parts.
Who do we do it for?
We are approved to work for all the Aerospace Primes under NADCAP (the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) which is a global cooperative standards-setting program for aerospace engineering, defence and related industries and have won several awards for our supplier performance. South West Metal Finishing processes parts for all engineering sectors and all sizes of companies in fields such as Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, Defence, Electronics, and Marine in either bulk processing or the plating of complex individual parts requiring several different treatments.
Where are our customers based?
Originally, most of our customers were based in the South West of England- Devon, Cornwall and Somerset but as we have grown our customers are very much National now and about 3% of our work is for customers in Europe. We offer a delivery and collection service in the South West area and other areas by arrangement.
How do we do our bit for the Environment?
We are accredited to BS EN ISO14001 which is the British Standard for Environmental Management Systems and it applies to those environmental aspects over which an organisation has control and where it can be expected to have an influence. The Company is committed to ensure that our impact on the environment is negligible and thus wherever possible we reuse or recycle waste, limit our consumption of energy, water and fuels and minimise our waste produced to land, water and air.
